OUR WELL-BEING EVENTS 2023
Experience the Tranquillity of Hilbre Island: A Mindful Wellness Walk
Welcome to the Hilbre Wellness Walk, an opportunity to immerse yourself in the serene beauty of Hilbre Island in the Dee estuary. Our mindful walks to Hilbre Island began in 2021 with a simple goal – to provide a safe, enjoyable, slow-paced, and relaxed experience in nature. This is not a hike; it's an invitation to connect with the natural world and find solace in its tranquility.
Event Details:
Hilbre Island, nestled in the Dee estuary, is a hidden spiritual gem of the North West of England, easily accessible from Liverpool, Manchester, and only a few hours from London. With a rich history dating back to the Dark Ages, the island carries a sense of spiritual significance. Named after St. Hildeburgh, an Anglo-Saxon saint, it became a place of pilgrimage after the 'miracle of the sands' in the 12th century. Since the Victorian era, it has drawn nature enthusiasts and those seeking the revitalizing sea air.
In the words of Brene Brown, an American sociologist, spirituality is about recognizing and celebrating our connection to one another and to a power greater than ourselves. It's grounded in love and belonging, bringing perspective, meaning, and purpose to our lives. Walking the island can be a spiritual experience, offering solitude and mindfulness in the embrace of nature.
The Hilbre Wellness Walk is designed as a gentle, slow-paced journey where you can engage all your senses. It's a way to walk, not hike, amidst nature without any preconceived expectations. Our walks are meticulously timed to commence two hours after high water, ensuring ample time to explore the island and return safely before the next high tide.
Please note that this walk is suitable for individuals capable of a three-hour moderate Sunday afternoon (7 km) walk. Be aware that the terrain on the island can be slippery and uneven underfoot, so suitable footwear is advised.
Join us on this enchanting journey to Hilbre Island, where you can rediscover your connection to nature and experience the profound serenity it offers. Reserve your spot now for an unforgettable mindful wellness walk.
We look forward to sharing this beautiful experience with you.

The seal colony next to Hilbre island has been growing since the Second World War. At their peak each year, there are up to 800 Atlantic grey seals. However, we cannot guarantee that we will see them close to the island. As with all nature experiences, we need to walk without expectations and see what surprises nature can provide.
These experiences are all planned to start four hours before high water, which gives time to get there and back before it is necessary to leave before this tide. The walk is for individuals capable of a three-hour moderately paced Sunday walk, and you must be aware that is can be slippery and uneven underfoot on the island.
Greetings and a warm welcome to Green Connection, proudly presented by Wirral Forest, a well-being Community Interest Company (CIC).
Our heartfelt mission is to extend a helping hand to individuals in their quest to manage stress and address mental health concerns. We achieve this through immersive experiences in the embrace of nature, harnessing the transformative power of the outdoors to enhance well-being.
As the seasons gracefully transition from early Autumn to the heart of Spring, we invite you to join us in resetting and rejuvenating amidst the soothing allure of nature. Our meticulously designed programs offer practical activities that foster a profound connection with the natural world – a perfect antidote to the demands of a busy work week.
Weekly Walks: In close collaboration with local social connectors, we have identified a pressing need for green connection right here on the Wirral. To meet this need, we proudly offer:
Your Guide: Our experienced guide has traversed nature therapy sites across England, the Midwestern United States, and Japan. Drawing inspiration from the practice of Forest Bathing, we offer an experience that awakens your senses to the healing qualities of the natural world. This phenomenon, often referred to as attention restoration therapy, offers benefits for both body and mind.
5-Ways of Well-being: Our walks are designed to uplift your mood, sharpen your clarity of thought, and even boost your immune and cardiovascular systems. Our approach aligns with the five ways to well-being: forging connections with both fellow participants and nature, engaging in physical activity, staying mindfully present, nurturing curiosity, and envisioning a future where you can extend these benefits to others.
What You'll Need to Participate: After scheduling your event with us, participation is straightforward – comfortable, sturdy shoes and attire suited to the day's weather conditions are all you need. We aim to proceed with events come rain or shine, although safety concerns may lead to cancellations in case of high winds.
Are You Ready? If you're prepared to reap the rewards of green connection, including the potential for physical and psychological rejuvenation, or if you're simply curious to learn more, we invite you to join us for one of our events. Experience first-hand how Green Connection can enhance your well-being like no other activity and guide you towards a harmonious relationship with the natural world, nurturing your inner landscape. Reserve your spot now.
We eagerly anticipate the opportunity to share these transformative moments with you
It will be necessary for all participants to wear wellies or sensible shoes, have access to waterproofs and have sufficient drinks and snacks during the experience (we do not supply these). The weather can be very changeable and if inclement the activity will be postponed or cut short at the discretion of the group leader.
Can I bring my dog? Dogs are allowed on the islands if they are on a leash. However, the well-being events are quiet and mindful, so we need to respect the need of the others in the group.
